Elissa Armstrong is on the faculty of Virginia Commonwealth University's School of the Arts and is the Director of the Art Foundation Program. Prior to joining VCU in 2006, Elissa co-head and taught in the Ceramics department at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas.

Elissa has presented on the topic of first year education at national and international conferences including CAA, FATE, InSEA, MACAA, SECAC and NACAC. Her work has been featured in numerous galleries and museums, such as the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, The Schein-Joseph International Museum of Ceramic Art, the Fuller Craft Museum, the John Micheal Kohler Arts Center and The Clay Studio. She was recently awarded a 2018 Canadian Art Council Grant and was honored with the 2012 VCUarts Distinguished Faculty Service Award.

Currently serving a two year term as Past-President of the National Council of Arts Administrators (NCAA), Elissa was President of the organization 2016-2018 and is a current board member.

Elissa received her M.F.A. from Alfred University; B.F.A. from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design; B.A. from Queen’s University; and her B.E.D. from the University of Western Ontario.
